Distribution Period

A Flexible Alternative to an Endowment

Some of your donors may wish to make a significant donation that provides sustained support over time without establishing an endowed fund. Instead, the gift can be invested and distributed over time. Typically, major gifts, including the initial donation and any earnings, are distributed in equal annual installments for a maximum of five (5) years.

Donors may use resources from IRA charitable gifts, legacy gifts, or other planned estate gifts to fund these donations. Funds in a Major Gifts Fund may be invested in cash, money markets, U.S. Government debt obligations, bank obligations (including FDIC-insured Certificates of Deposit), and other investments as approved by the Board of Directors.
