With the sunshine and bloom of spring flowers, the first grant was awarded to the Community Foundation for Cecil County from the Upper Shore Regional Council in the amount of $9,700.
The Upper Shore Regional Council (USRC) was created in October 2003 and was established as a regional planning and development agency for the area consisting of Cecil County, Kent County, and Queen Anne’s County. Their mission is to foster regional planning and development for Cecil, Kent, and Queen Anne’s counties; to afford federal, state, county, and local governments a regional forum to identify issues and opportunities; and to provide leadership in planning and implementing programs to improve the quality of life in the Upper Shore Region of Maryland.
Supporting CFCC’s mission to promote sustainability in Cecil County nonprofit organizations by securing resources from philanthropic investments in our community, USRC provided the start-up funding to launch our new community foundation for Cecil County.
Building on this grant, CFCC plans to work with local donors to invest large donations and create permanent endowments whose earnings will be used to reinvest in the community year after year. CFCC is also committed to increasing access to high-quality education and training for nonprofit professionals.
