About Endowments

Creating a lasting impact in Cecil County.
When an Endowment Fund is created through the Community Foundation for Cecil County (CFFCC), it will benefit the community forever.

1. What Is An Endowment?

When an Endowment Fund is created through the Community Foundation for Cecil County (CFCC), it will benefit the community forever. Donations of cash, securities, or other assets are invested over time, and a portion of the earnings from the fund is distributed to local nonprofits as specified by the initiating donor, while the principal remains intact and continues to grow.  This ensures ongoing support for the community in perpetuity.  Endowments are restricted funds and are governed by an endowment agreement.

2. How Are Endowments Managed and Distributed?

Both donors and nonprofit organizations have the opportunity to permanently name an endowment fund if it meets the minimum contribution requirements established by CFCC. Income from the endowment is distributed based on the instructions outlined in the Nonprofit Agency or Donor Endowment Agreements and the CFCC Spending Policy.

3. Who Can Establish An Endowment?

A Donor Endowment may be established by any person, organization, or business. An Agency Endowment, however, may only be established by a qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
